World IP Day Conference 2012

The Law Society of Scotland and the Faculty of Advocates are planning their fifth annual World Intellectual Property Day event in Edinburgh on Friday 27 April 2012, from 12 noon to 2pm.

The Law Society of Scotland and the Faculty of Advocates are planning their fifth annual World Intellectual Property Day event in Edinburgh on Friday 27 April 2012, from 12 noon to 2pm. World IP Day is on 26 April each year, and The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva set up this global event in 2000. World IP Day aims to make us aware of the impact of IP on daily life, teach us about how IP protection promotes creativity and innovation, celebrate the contribution of creativity/innovation to society and encourage respect for IP rights.

The event will be hosted by Roisin Higgins, Advocate and IP specialist and Graeme McWilliams, Legal Adviser, Standard Life. This event is an opportunity to celebrate Intellectual Property and World IP Day, reinforce the importance of IP and why it needs to be respected and protected and a focus for IP awareness raising within Scotland. Speakers for the day will be confirmed shortly. There is more information about World IP Day 2012 available on the
website at https://www.wipo.int/ip-outreach/en/ipday

Protecting your ideas and inventions – World IP Day

Intellectual Property (IP) can be owned, bought and sold. But how does this affect you? St John’s Innovation Centre and The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) invite individuals and businesses in Cambridgeshire to a special event on World IP Day – April 26th 2012 – for an overview on how patents and designs can be used to protect ideas and inventions.

You will find out how to make the most of your business’s intellectual property using trademarks and copyright and hear how a successful, growing company has effectively protected their exclusive online product.

Miles Rees, Business Outreach Manager from the Intellectual Property Office comments: “The Intellectual Property Office always looks forward to World IP Day, which is now only weeks away. It provides us with another platform to raise awareness of IP and reinforce the importance of good IP management.

“We are very much looking forward to being part of the World IP Day celebrations at St John’s Innovation Centre in Cambridge. Our experts will be there giving an overview of Intellectual Property, and answering any questions event delegates may have.”
